 Crook County Community Wildfire Protection Plan

COIC worked in collaboration with Crook County, local fire districts, state and federal agencies, and others to complete the five-year review and rewrite of Crook County’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) in 2024. The Crook County Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) is a county-wide, strategic assessment of the risks, hazards, mitigation, and prevention opportunities associated with wildfire in Crook County communities.

A valid CWPP must:

  • be developed collaboratively by local and state government agencies in consultation with federal agencies;
  • identify and prioritize areas for hazardous fuel reduction treatments and recommend strategies for protecting communities and infrastructure;
  • and recommend measures that homeowners and communities can take to reduce ignitability of structures throughout the area addressed by the plan.

Under the Healthy Forest Restoration Act (HFRA 2003), communities with a CWPP are given priority for US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management funded hazardous fuels reduction projects, in addition to helping better protect themselves from fire risk and manage their forest landscapes.
