Initial Problem Statement:

Rapid population growth is increasing the need for transportation services in general and better coordination of transportation options for seniors, the disabled and persons without the means of personal mobility.

As Central Oregon faces rapid growth, the need for transportation services within and among communities increases proportionately. This necessity includes not only the amount of transportation and transit services available but also options to meet a wide variety of needs including those of seniors, people with disabilities, and other residents without the means of personal transportation. This planning process will pull together stakeholders representing all elements of the Deschutes County population to discuss transportation issues and collectively arrive at solutions using existing transportation services that the entire stakeholder group can support.

Project Leadership:

The Deschutes County Transportation Coordination project is a an
Oregon Solutions Initiative organized by the Central Oregon Partnership, the Community Action Teams of Redmond, Sisters, Bend and La Pine, and the Central Oregon Intergovernmental Council, in cooperation with Deschutes County and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Initial Project Goals:

• Identify present and future needs for providing ride options, coordinating transportation services, and ensuring citizen and visitor mobility in Deschutes County.
• Develop a shared vision for the ideal transportation system for Deschutes County.
• Identify steps to work toward the shared vision, including coordination of existing resources and services as well as identifying potential future projects.
• Prioritize coordination initiatives based on the needs that would be met and the potential for success.
• Implement top priority coordination projects.

Meetings:

All meetings of the Deschutes County Transportation Coordination project are open to the public, and interested parties are encouraged to attend and participate.

Meeting Schedule, Agenda & Minutes:

The Transportation Coordination Core Team meets on the fourth Thursday of the month. The meeting location may vary.
