CROP

Coordinated Resouce Offering Protocol or "CROP" is an online graphics enabled database assembled by the COPWRR group to help businesses and community groups generate a picture of potential fiber supply (volumes and weights) from public land forest restoration projects in order to help these organizations make forest products business investment decisions.

CROP has been designed to function as a simple graphic based online program. It opens (by clicking the gray button on the right of this page) as a map and allows you to take three steps to narrow your search options.

  • Step 1: Select the city/community (by selecting the yellow circle next to the city name) for which you are interested. This will arrange information as it relates to the distance from the city you have selected.
  • Step 2: Select a distance; 25, 50, or 75 road miles from the city you have selected. This will open a map showing your community, the distance radius, and all of the areas where small diameter-producing projects are anticipated to be implemented over the next five years.
  • Step 3 (optional): On the map, you can click the location icon for limited information about any planning areas, or you can download an excel spreadsheet of all of the projects.

CROP Data Content

.The database contains information on currently-planned forest and rangeland restoration projects on federal lands. Information is presented on:

  • Volumes and weights of primary species expected to be produced from each project, by diameter class,
  • Anticipated date the material will be made available
  • The type of project
  • The type of contract to be utilized
  • Dead vs. % green
  • NEPA status
  • And several other variables.

The database is updated by agency staff, once every year, in March. They are requested to include information on all projects over the upcoming five years, as possible.

CROP Geography

The database and map covers all forest and rangeland restoration projects within the following public land management areas in Central Oregon:

  • Entirety of the Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests
  • Portions of the Mt. Hood and Fremont-Winema National Forests
  • Entirety of the Prineville District BLM

Future versions will include information on the entire Mt. Hood National Forest

CROP Limitations

This site is intended to provide businesses and community groups with a quick forecast of potential supply volumes, for strategic planning purposes only. It is the responsibility of users to perform their own verification and due diligence of potential supply quantities and actual locations.

Additional caveats:

  • Information for near-term projects is much more detailed and reliable than out-year projects, due to inherent uncertainties in projects that have not yet cleared NEPA, and/or which have not yet been budgeted.
  • GIS locations are highly estimated; in some cases they are simply the center point of very large Planning Areas.
  • Projects are subject to unscheduled appeal and litigation, as well as wildfires or other disturbances, so anticipated dates can be delayed for any project.
  • All data are estimates provided by agency staffs. Actual offered amounts could vary significantly.
