You Hire, You Train, We Pay
The purpose of On-the-Job Training is
to assist businesses in training and retaining productive employees
Employer Benefits
- You make the hiring decision.
- You train the employee.
- You will receive partial wage reimbursement for the employee’s training hours.
- The length of training is tailored to meet the needs of the position.
Trainee Benefits
- You gain practical, hands on training
- You gain full-time permanent employment
Requirements for Employers
- The written contract must be established prior to the first day of work.
- Job openings must meet qualifications and employees must meet eligibility requirements.
- All training must be completed by June 30, 2012.
- Position cannot be part-time(< 30 hours per week), temporary, seasonal (note: some seasonal jobs may have short lay-off periods and may be acceptable)
- Principal method of payment cannot be commission or piecework
- There is a need for training other than a brief period of orientation
- A professional license or other certification requiring institutional training is not necessary
How Does an Employer Get Started?
- Call a COIC representative to have your business pre-screened.
- Allow us to connect with your potential employee to determine eligibility.
- A COIC representative will complete all the paperwork for the employee's enrollment. *This must happen prior to the first day of work.
- We will complete a short worksite visit during the contract period.
- Submit the applicable wages for partial payment.
Is every job seeker and local business eligible?
No, but you can find out easily if you qualify by contacting our office.
Can I choose who to hire, or do you send me someone?
It’s your choice. Send us someone to pre-screen for you, or ask us who we might already have available to interview.
Requirements for Trainees
- Must be a dislocated Worker and WIA eligible
(contact COIC rep below for more info)
- Trainee must have been laid off since January 1, 2008
(as a result of the recession)
- Have been laid off for at least 19 weeks at entry of training.
(Temporary, part-time work does not apply)
